IoT – Internet of Things and the future of IT

Do you know what is IoT (Internet of Things)?

Most people have heard about it, but many don’t know what it is.
Here is a short explanation from Wikipedia:
“The Internet of things (IoT) is the inter-networking of physical devices, vehicles (also referred to as “connected devices” and “smart devices”), buildings, and other items—embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and network connectivity that enable these objects to collect and exchange data.”

In other words, imagine all your home appliances talking to each other and sharing information with you and other devices.
Fridges send messages that are running low on milk, or there are no beers on Friday evenings. It doesn’t stop here, not only for home appliances but anything our imagination can reach. You could find a car park available before you get to the place, as other cars already talked to your car.
Another great example is Smart Cities: The IoT has the potential to transform entire cities by solving real problems citizens face each day. With the proper connections and data, the Internet of Things can solve traffic congestion issues and reduce noise, crime, and pollution.
IoT already exists, and it will be a big part of our future.

Connected machines and objects in factories offer the potential for a ‘fourth industrial revolution’, and experts predict more than half of new businesses will run on the IoT by 2020.

Designed to prepare our students for the future, the ICT50615 – Diploma of Website Development includes a particular unit, ICTWEB516 Research and apply emerging web technology trends, this unit will give the opportunity to our students to research and apply new web tech trends, such as IoT, AI (Artificial Intelligence) and VR (Virtual Reality). Students will learn, not only how to write codes but, essentially how to apply these trends on their website or their prospect client website.
